Quarreling

Avoiding a fight is a mark of honor; only fools insist on quarreling. Proverbs 20:3 NLT

A person who is truly confident of his or her strength does not need to parade it. A truly brave person does not look for chances to prove it. A resourceful woman can find a way out of a fight. A man of endurance will avoid retaliating. Foolish people find it impossible to avoid strife. Men and women of character can. What kind of kind of person are you?

Food for thought...

Godly living safeguards your life. Every choice for good sets into motion other opportunities for good. Evil choices follow the same pattern, but in the opposite direction. Each decision you make to obey God's Word will bring a greater sense of order to your life, while each decision to disobey will bring confusion and destruction. The right choices you make reflect your integrity. Obedience brings the greatest safeguard and security.

Conviction for the Believer

Romans 1:24-25, Psalms 23

Recently I spoke to a heartbroken woman. Her father was dying, and he was cold toward his family and God. He desired no contact and refused to discuss any spiritual matter.

But God is able to reach anyone—even someone hostile to the faith. Consider the apostle Paul’s conversion! Yet Scripture also teaches that the Lord eventually gives people over to the hardness of their own hearts. There may come a point when He no longer draws them by revealing their need for a Savior.

The situation is different for believers, though. When we, in our humanness, continue to sin, the Holy Spirit convicts us so we’ll get back on track. At that point, we can humbly repent and follow Him or ignore His voice and continue to sin. If we persist in error, our Father will keep calling us back. But the danger is that our hearts may become desensitized and eventually we may cease hearing His warning.

Thankfully, we are children of God, and He loves us too much to let us remain in a sinful pattern. Though chastisement and conviction are never pleasant, He knows our travelling down the wrong road results in much greater heartache. The Lord is a shepherd, using His staff and rod to lovingly bring us to green pastures.

On the Christian journey, there will be temptations to stray, falsely promising to satisfy longings. Stay closely connected to Jesus through prayer and Scripture. Be listening so you can obey immediately when He calls you to change course. In the long run, living God’s way brings the greatest joy.

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. Beware of Worldly Mantras.

I just read one that says, "You must always have faith in yourself." Now at first glance this seems to be right. However, it does not line up with scripture. The Jesus says, “...You believe in God; believe also in me. " John 14:1 NIV It also says, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13

Guard your heart and your beliefs so that they are in line with scripture. A believer is dependent upon God for all things. He's our strong tower, our refuge, our Savior, our protector and provider, our help in trouble, our deliverer, and the lover of our soul to name a few. So don't latch on to the mantras of the world no matter how catchy and soothing to the flesh (sinful nature) they may be. Sift them through the word of God and throw the trash away.

but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil. 1 Thessalonians 5:21-22 NIV

Self belief leads to pride and closes your heart to the need for a Savior and heavenly Father.

God's Will For Your Life

Don’t use your body for sexual sin like the people who do not know God. Also, do not wrong or cheat another Christian in this way. The Lord will punish people who do those things as we have already told you and warned you. God called us to be holy and does not want us to live in sin. So the person who refuses to obey this teaching is disobeying God, not simply a human teaching. And God is the One who gives us his Holy Spirit.” 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8 NCV

Holding on to Hope

For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. Let your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, even as we hope in you. Psalm 33:21–22

Your grip on hope is slipping. You feel like the rope you've been hanging on to since your cancer began is slowly sliding through your fingers. Your hands are burning, cramping. You're down to the final few loose threads. You're squeezing the life out of that fraying, lifeless rope.

Let go.

Did you hear that?

Let go!

You won't fall into oblivion or hellish chaos.

You'll fall where you've actually been all along, even while tenaciously clutching your rope.

You'll fall into Jesus' arms.
Into his love and protection.
Into his care for you and your future.

You do have a future, you know. It may not look exactly like the future you were envisioning. It may include more suffering and pain. It may include more years…or fewer.

But it's exactly the future God planned for you from the beginning. He knows your body better than you, better than any of your doctors.

You may be mystified by what's happening inside your body, bewildered by the decisions that need to be made, uncertain of what tomorrow will bring.

But never forget: You have hope.

Instead of a weak and raveling rope, hang on to your Creator, the source of your hope.

He's got you and your future in his very skilled hands.

Drawn from the NIV Pink Bible: An Invitation to Hope.

What might God be calling you to let go of today?

Healing

Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. Courage

Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you stood your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering. Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated. You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions. So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. Hebrews 10:32-36 NIV

"Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you stood your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised." Hebrews 10:32-36 NIV
